OBJECTS AND HYBRID STRUCTURES: SIGNS OF POWER
solo mixed media exhibition and live sound intervention
25
september 2007
The
solo exhibition entitled ‘Displaced Objects and Hybrid Structures:
Signs of Power' features MarkoBatista’s new mixed media work exploring
the idea of transportation, mobility, transformation, networking or
repositioning particular artistic discourses. Focusing on different
approaches towards modularity and artistic reproduction processes within
its historical, political, social, cultural and theoretical frameworks,
Marko Batista’s new work introduces audio-visual environment as
hybrid structure based on so-called ‘meta’ relations and
objects as being simultaneously real, social and discursive formations.
The whole project is linked to ‘Statements and Remixes’
exhibition made incooperation with Trebor Scholz, Miltos Manetas, Paul
D. Miller, Boris Saletic in 2005 and presented at The Museum of Modern
Art in Ljubljana. It represents a connection or interaction of heterogenic
elements that are structured and placed into new conceptual environment.
Artist, media theorist and researcher Trebor Scholz explains that “Distributed
real-time interaction strategies and negotiations for data sharing and
processing are examples of dynamic systems with a high degree of complexity,
just as culture itself can be viewed as a highlycomplex system.”
Specific perception is important for transparent analysis of this type
of projects. They overcome Benjamin's turn from aesthetic discussion
to a communicational one and spreadit into the field of organization.
This process cannot be valued only as a degradation of individual art
practice and uniqueness but as achievement of the union of complex formations,
whichcontain tension, contradictions and failures. The local innovations
become a force of its exchange.
